Thesis Name:Using the antioxidative responses of Marine Fish (Pagrosomus major ) to indicate PAHs exposure in Meizhou bay area, China |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[chemistry] |
Remarks: |
With the rapid development of port construction and petrochemical industry in Meizhou Bay area, discharge of pollutants (especially for oil spills) is increasing. It is important to assess their impact on the environmental quality and biological effects. In November 2000 , water and marine fish (Pagrosomus major, in the fish cages) samples were collected near a large petrochemical firm (M2 station) and a control site (M1 station) in Meizhou Bay. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in water samples were analyzed by GC-MS coupled with SIM mode. The activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPX) and lipoperoxide (LPO) in the liver, gill and blood of fish samples were analyzed. Results showed that PAHs concentration in M2 station was higher than that in M1 station; and LPO, GPX activities in liver, gill and blood of Temminck et Schlegel in M2 station were stronger than that in M1 station, on the contrary, SOD activity in liver, gill and blood of Pagrosomus major in M2 station was weaker than that in M1 station; CAT activities in liver, gill and blood of Pagrosomus major in M2 station and M1 station were not significantly different. This study denotes that the indexes of LPO, SOD and GPX could be used as good biomarkers to indicate the PAHs pollution in the marine environment.

Thesis Name:Study on synthesis of 1,2,3-triazole |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[chemistry] |
Remarks: |
1,2,3-triazole was prepared by the reaction of tosylhydrazine with glyoxal followed by treatment with ammonia. Experiments were done under different conditions of reaction, and the optimal condition for synthesis of 1,2,3-triazole was obtained. Under the optimal condition, the yield of 1,2,3-triazole was 66.8%.

Thesis Name:Multiple-channel instrument development for a hypergolic vapor detection |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[chemistry] |
Remarks: |
A novel multiple-channel instrument is developed which is designed for detecting hydrazine compounds detection of 10-6 level in real time. The instrument employs electrochemical sensors which have the advantage of high specificity and fine stability. It can be used for leakage checking in the places where a large quantities of hydrazine are used or manufactured. |

Thesis Name:Determination of Tanshinone IIA in two kinds of Chinese traditional patent medicines by HPLC |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[HPLC] |
Remarks: |
Dan Qi Pian and Tong Mai Chongji are general Chinese traditional patent medicines. Although they are edited in the eighth volume(1993) of Medicine Standards published by the Ministry of Health of the People's Republic of China, there was not any determination method for their effective components. Hence it was difficult to examine the quality of the drugs. It is showed that Tanshinone IIA is a kind of important effective component in Dan Qi Pian and Tong Mai Chongji[1]. The determination of Tanshinone IIA have already been reported [2,3]. As complicated components existing, determination method for Tanshinone IIA in Dan Qi Pian and Tong Mai Chongji has not been reported. In this paper, a HPLC method for the determination of Tanshinone IIA in Dan Qi Pian and Tong Mai Chongji was established. |

Thesis Name:Study on the toxicity of substituted aromatic compounds to aquatic organisms by using AM1 method |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[Substituted aromatic compounds] |
Remarks: |
Acute toxicity data of 30 substituted aromatic compounds to photobaterium phosphoreum were determined in this paper. Combining with the toxicity data of these compounds to pimephames promelas reported in references, quantitative structure-activity relationships were established by using semiempirical method of quantum chemistry-AM1. The results showed that good predictions could be made by using quantum parameters together with hydrophobic parameters.

Thesis Name:Recent progress in studies of cationic liposome as gene vectors |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[cationic liposome] |
Remarks: |
Gene therapy is dependent on the development of gene vectors. Cationic liposome may be a potential candidate in the gene delivery. The methods of forming cationic liposome as gene vectors, mechanism of gene transfection, and structure-activity relationship of cationic liposomes have been reviewed. The problems and further studies in this area were discussed. |

Thesis Name:Microcalorimetric investigation of thermochemical characteristics of the growth metabolism of Tetrahymena pyriformis |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[thermochemitry] |
Remarks: |
The heat output of the growth metabolism of Tetrahymena pyriformis has been determined by using a LKB-2277 BioActivity Monitor at 25°C. From the thermogenic curves, it can be established that thermokinetic equation of their growth metabolism is Pt = Pt=0 exp(km t), dP / dt = km P1 ,with the order of growth metabolism n = 1. The experimental results indicate that the relationship between the metabolic power (P) and the cell concentration (C), and relationship between the metabolic power of each cell (P0) and the cell concentration (C) can be characterized by the following thermal equations: P = A + K C, P0 = A' + K' ln C or dC / dP0 = C1 .The order of the P0-C equation is also 1. These results are very significant in environmental sciences, biology and thermochemistry |

Thesis Name:Suppression of non-specific adsorption using sheath flow |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[Applied Chemistry] |
Remarks: |
The use of a confining sheath fluid within a microfluidic channel in order prevent non-specific adsorption of analytes to the walls of microchannels is demonstrated.
A sheath-flow channel fabricated using laser cutting of Mylar films is developed. Numerical simulations of convective and diffusive mass transport within the channel are presented. The device is characterized experimentally using epifluorescence microscopy. It is demonstrated that the device is capable of preventing the adsorption of Rhodamine B to the walls of the channel for a period that would allow for adsorption-free T-sensor measurements to be made within the core of the flow channel. Generalized scaling rules based on the diffusion coefficient, sheath thickness and affinity of the potential adsorbant for the surface material are discussed. The controlled adsorption of the protein bovine serum albumin (BSA) to a gold surface is also demonstrated using SPR microscopy. |

Thesis Name:Preparation, biological activity and quantum chemistry calculation of quercetin-Aluminium complex |
Country:[CN] |
Usage:[ biological activity] |
Remarks: |
Al(C15H9O7)3·4H2O was synthesized via reaction of quercetin with Al3+ in solution and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1HNMR and thermal analysis. Then its biological activity was measured by means of pyrogallol autoxidation. The result shows that it has stronger antioxidative activity than quercetin. Quantum chemistry calculation was performed by using Gaussian 98 program at HF/LanL2DZ basis set. The geometry structure, vibrational frequency, population and molecular orbital were discussed, which theoretically gives more information on the structure of the complex and the reason why it has stronger antioxidative activity, so that experimental results agree with the theoretical calculation.
