1930年8月出生，江苏常熟人。 52年毕业上海同济大学化学系 52年分配在上海物理化学研究所工作 1953年调至中国科学院长春应用化学研究所工作， 82年晋升为研究员 86年调至中国科学院金属腐蚀与防护研究所任研究员 90年批准为博士生导师 94年调至浙江大学化学系任教 95年5月转聘为教授 91年当选为中国科学院学部委员（院士）现任中国腐蚀与防护学会理事长，腐蚀电化学专业委员会名誉主任，中国化学会电化学委员会副主任。
